The water act 2014 allows for a creation of a new market for English water retail and sewerage services for charities, businesses and public sector organisations in England.

This new market will be set up to work with the existing Scottish water retail market which has been open since 2008 enabling businesses, charities and the public sector organisations to switch water supply, taking advantage of discounted water supply contracts from other licenced water providers.

1.2 million customers will be able to choose who supplies their water and waste water services in the new English water retail market, which is planned to open April 2017.

Being able to switch water supplier will mean businesses will be able to negotiate the best package for their individual needs.
