Water bill validation and site water audits are key to reducing water costs.

Detailed scrutiny of water bills and on-going water bill validation is key to reducing water costs, charges are levied by water suppliers may seem ok but in this case the water charges were high in comparison with other sites within the clients portfolio. In addition, a detailed scrutiny revealed the water meter serial number 09H702861 on the water bill signifies the year of manufacture by the first two digits 09 – being 2009 yet the readings were imperial measures and not metric as the water meter was manufactured and installed well after decimalisation, the readings and bills should not have been levied in imperial measures.

Action taken: – A site water audit was undertaken, the water meter had to be located and according to the water bill the meter was located in an underground chamber at the front entrance to the property.

A meter reading was taken and it was considered highly unlikely that this was the correct water meter feeding this customers site in question two underground isolation valves were identified further down from this metered supply outside a boiler plant room, indicating more than one water supply is entering and feeding the site.

On entering the plant room another 50mm water meter was found reading in metric measures and substantially less consumption was recorded on this meter.

The water supply was traced from this meter to the booster set identified as feeding the customers demise under investigation.

Financial results: – A £ 10,000 water rebate was given to the customer and a £ 20,000 reduction in water charges going forwards.
