H²0 Building Services say get a water audit – a water leak is expensive!

H²O Building Services were requested to attend Mary Hare School in Hertfordshire due to a suspected water leak, having located the water meter our engineers measured the flow rate at 110 litres per minute, this equated to 138 cubic meters per day at a cost of £258 per day. If left unchecked and the water company had not taken an actual water meter reading for some time which is often the case the client would have received an actual bill at year end in excess of £ 94,000.

In this case the water leakage was visible above ground, 95% of all water leaks are not until a larger than normal water bill arrives, the investigation then begins but by this time it is too late and the water loss has impacted on costs going forward.

H²O Building Services recommends: – Seek professional advice

* Firstly have an in-depth water audit report carried out and this will identify savings going forward, and very likely refunds due to historical billing errors by the water company.

* In addition, an on line water flow monitoring device can be fitted to the water company meter, all future excess water flow would be identified and recorded and viewed on a web based data platform, alarms can be programmed to alert the  customer of excess water usage, action can then be instigated to prevent a future financial impact on water costs.

This is what a 110 litre per minutes leak looks like.

And the cause of the leak, 2 holes in the pipe.
