Is desalination the answer to quenching our thirst for water?
Author: Graham Mann, Water Audit Expert.
I for one do not think that desalination is the answer for the worlds constant and growing thirst for water, our attitude towards water has to change. We seem not to value water until of course we run short which we experienced a few years ago in the UK, but more recently California, Thailand, Brazil and many other countries across the world.
“Water is life” and forms an integral part of everyday life, we take water for granted until the rains fail and we fall back on science. The thing is desalination is costly, in fact twice as expensive as treating rainwater or waste water (sewerage if you like) the cost for desalinated water – around £2 per cubic meter (220 gallons) and that is not delivered!
There are many ways we can all do our bit, implement a water management strategy within a business which has many advantages, the fitting of water saving devices such as aerated taps and water saving showers will reduce water consumption and energy for heating hot water, click here for water saving showers http://www.low-e.co.uk/Low-E_TapAerators these are small items that can make a big difference.
