Reducing water bills is all about saving water, inefficient water fitting are a good place to start.

Reducing water bills by saving water may seem obvious but often inefficient water fittings such as the good old urinal waste thousands, and it fair to say we do not realise a constantly flushing toilet is a key area of inefficient water usage and contributes to high water bills.

Nearly all urinal cisterns are hidden from view behind panels so the regular uncontrolled flushing goes unnoticed.

When water audit surveys are carried out panels should be removed in order to complete a usual inspection of all hidden w.c and urinal cisterns.

In the photograph below is a urinal cistern flowing constantly uncontrolled, there is very little evidence such as water noise as this installation is fed by a storage tank and not under mains water pressure. This particular installation was in a high cost water and waste water area in the South West, the cost per cubic metre for water and waste is a staggering £5.29.

Urinal Cistern Filling With Water - reducing water bills

The urinal cistern in the picture was wasting water to the tune of £4,000 per year.

If you have  multiple installations similar to this then its safe to assume thousands of pounds worth of water is simply flushing down the drain.

To resolve these issues consider fitting passive infra red urinal flush controls which will control flushing based on occupancy, reducing flush cycles and there by saving water and reducing water bills.
