Underground water leaks can cost serious money
H²O Building Services received a call from a Care Home in Manchester, the water bills were very high and had been for years, various attempts by other leak detection firms had been made to locate the water losses to no avail.
The first plan of action was to request that the client provides copies of the last 2 years water and sewerage bills, the billing information was put onto a spreadsheet and we then dispatched a leak detection engineer. On arrival to site he located the water meter, he isolated the supply into the building and measured the flow rate, the leakage rate was recorded at 1.3 cubic metres per hour equating to 11,388 cubic metres per annum loss, the cost for water and sewerage for the leak worked out at £ 29,608pa.
H²O Building Services water consultants then set about tracing out the water supply pipes underground and carrying out water leak detection, the leak noise created by the water leak was detected by using aqua phones and the leak location was marked down on the block paving (photo to the left) for the water leak repairs engineers who are following on behind who will excavate on the mark laid down our the leak detection engineer. The marked area was then excavated and the water main exposed (centre photo) you can see the water bubbling up from the leaking water main, the pipe is repaired, pressured tested and the excavation reinstated to a high standard and the site cleared (photo to the right) all in one day saving the client £ 29,608 per annum.
Without doubt it certainly pays to audit your water charges.
