Water leak detection experts partner with Surrey County Council to reduce water losses

The team at H²O Building Services , the water leak detection experts have been working on various water cost reduction projects for a number of years, this latest project was to identify high consumption sites within the traveller site portfolio, the site at Conifer Park, Kiln Lane, Epsom was of particular interest. Although it is sometimes difficult to determine whether these sites have water leaks as one week there could be 12 pitches and the following week there could be more than double that amount.

Upon visiting the site ensuring all water use was suspended for 30 minutes a flow rate check was completed indicating 14 litres per minute loss, at that rate a staggering unaccounted water loss of 7,358 cubic metres was being lost at a cost of nearly £12,000 per year.

Acoustic listening devices were applied to various isolation valves around the site and an underground water leak was detected and subsequently repaired which saved Surrey County Council some £12,000 per year, the payback is 3 months.
