Water security research attracts £1m government investment.
There is a real risk the UK could have a 10,000 million litre per day water shortage by the year 2050, the Technology Strategy Board is to invest £ 1m in the search for a water security solution.
Some ten medium sized companies in the UK have been chosen and awarded grants ranging from £63,000 up to £ 146,000 in order to come up with solutions which will assist in safeguarding future water supplies, with this risk reaching crisis point new innovative ideas are needed urgently.
One idea which was awarded funding was a “flush saver” toilet cistern designed to eradicate toilet leaks attracted £ 146,000 worth of funding whilst another idea which attracted funding of £ 63,000 is leak location and mapping of underground water pipes.
