£ 7,000 water leak caused by faulty water meter installation – Case Study.

Author: Graham Mann, Water Audit Expert.

Not all water leaks are the responsibility of the customer, water leak detection engineers were called to a site in Tonbridge, Kent where the water consumption had increased from 6m3 per day to 10.77m3 per day at the rate of increase this resulted in an extra cost of £ 7,000 per annum. There was very little leak noise evident below ground, just a faint noise next to the small water meter chamber so a small excavation was made adjacent to the water meter chamber and a water leak was discovered on a fitting within the meter chamber that was not evident above ground. As the leak was due to a faulty water company fitting within the meter chamber it is the responsibility of the water company to repair the leak.
